Devon Hog Roasts – have a memorable event

Devon Hog Roasts

How can we make your celebration unique? Here’s how. If you want a unique experience for your event, a Devon hog roast really is an excellent way to cater for family and friends. It’s great for celebrations with many guests attending, such as weddings. We often come recommended for events such as wedding celebrations in Devon. However, hog roasts are also a great choice for smaller celebrations and we can tailor our service to suit your needs.

The roasting process

Due to many years into the hog roasting craft in Devon and in the Wescountry, Dave has come up with is own take on the roasting machine. The device is easy to transport, since it can be attached to a trailer. It maintains a steady temperature while the hog turns slowly on a spit inside, for several measure hours. No additives of flavourings are added, only salt on the rind. The result is the most tender, succulent meat which literally falls off the bone during carving. This roasting method also produces spectacular crackling which is always a firm favourite with guests!

Using a digital thermometer, the hog’s temperature is checked periodically. You can tell it is ready to eat when the temperature reaches ninety degrees Celsius at the thickest part – the shoulder. Afterwards, the gas burner is turned off, and the hog is allowed to rest for half an hour. Although the meat will stay hot for several hours, it is at its best carved immediately after this resting period because the crackling is at its most crisp at this point. Serving them to your guests, usually in bread rolls, is something we do best. Moreover, we are very flexible and can serve the meat on platters, should you prefer this.

We have extensively trained our staff, who all wear immaculate uniforms, in particular hog roasting procedure. We also clean up the event area afterwards, and we leave left-over meat for guests to enjoy.

Some provisions we need

During the even, we’d like some hot water and access to an electric socket. If possible, the chosen area should be accessible by van and trailer. Still, we can transfer the roaster from the trailer is needed. If you have chosen a location where there is no hot water, we can usually work around this also. We use our own marquee to cover the roaster should it rain.

Hog roasts in Devon are truly memorable events.
