Acne Diet Development: Creating the Diet that is Right for Your Skin and Your Stomach
An acne diet is certainly an appealing idea. Hasn't everybody heard that chocolate will give you pimples? Almost all of us have. If you think about it its not so far-fetched that by watching your diet you could prevent acne.
However, an acne diet can be a hard thing to develop. Being based on your body's responses to certain foods makes it very personal. There are rules to follow, but progress is usually by trial and error. Make sure you are keeping an eye on your skin. Write it all down. You could even take pictures a few times a week. If and when your skin clears, stick to the diet that you were using at that time.
The following are some easy guidelines to help get you started on an acne diet:
1. Take in a lot more protein. Some dermatologists even believe that protein intake is connected to having clear skin. Oil production is limited from an enzyme located within protein. Oily skin has always been susceptible to breakouts.
2. Keep away from carbohydrates. You do not need to cut out carbs completely. But you do need to limit them so that they are only about 40 percent of your diet. This is because compounds in carbohydrates can stimulate oil production. This is the reason that junk food has the reputation that it causes acne. In reality junk food just has a high carb content.
3. Try to drink green tea. If possible, drink the real stuff. The best type of green tea is the kind that you brew. You may not like the real stuff so the green tea drinks will work. Green tea will limit the creation of androgen. Androgen is a hormone that can cause breakouts.
4. Limit your total intake of salt. Iodine is usually found in salt. This being the reason table salt can be called “iodized salt.” For some people with acne, iodine can be a major inflammatory agent.
It is very important to watch what you eat and put on your face. If you currently have acne, you are more aware than most of what is contained in your beauty products. Those who are prone to acne should look for oil free moisturizers. These are the least likely to irritate your skin. If you wear makeup you may want to consider switching over to mineral makeup. Many dermatologists believe that mineral makeup can actually alleviate acne problems and enhance the results of your acne diet.
